At Lunar Boy Gallery in Astoria, Oregon (where The Goonies was filmed) opening this Friday, June 5th, 4-7p.
A cut-away into the set of the old restaurant, worked into some of the details of the painting are glasses of murky water, a blender, some 'funny money', a rat trap, bats, a rake (i couldn't paint the fish head and get it to read), a map, an empty fruit plate, a skeleton, Chunk, Data, Mikey, and Sloth.
"Hey, that's a summer place, what's it doing open in the fall?" - Chunk
April 10, 2010 The Meeting
The two were never meant to be together, but it didn't stop them from meeting somewhere over the old factory.
February 7, 2010 Thumbnails for a well known story
Gallery Nucleus is having a show, CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER: INSPIRED BY 'ALICE IN WONDERLAND' opening on Feb. 27, 2010! I've committed to a few other projects this month and reluctantly had to decline participation in the show, but it sounds like the show is going to be pretty amazing with the cast of artists they have participating! I tried to see if I could quickly work on a painting for the show but came to the realization that I don't paint enough in real media to crank something out. Here are the thumbnails for some of the ideas I had.
Brownstones to Red Dirt
Check out the Brownstones to Red Dirt blog for this fundraiser that Vicki Saulls is organizing, there are some great postcards! Here is my contribution for the event!
February 2, 2010 Children’s Book Project
The first study for a children's story that I am working on. None of the designs have really been resolved, it was a moment I wanted to paint.
February 1, 2010 Japan
A quick digital painting inspired by a trip to Japan. Really just a study.
June 15, 2009 First Commision Painting
The only request for the painting was that it have a boy and a red umbrella in it. I haven't painted with real media in a while, and it was a lot of fun to get the paints out. I've included the digital thumb I did and the digital color study. The final ended up having a lot of things that I was trying to do in the studies, digitally I find myself manufacturing a lot of the 'happy accidents' that occur naturally with actual paint! I hope to paint more in the months to come! Thanks, Rich!
June 13, 2009 Jab Fierce Strong
It's been a long time since the last post. Here is a piece from a Street Fighter group show at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California. The idea came from a friend, who is much more familiar with the Street Fighter world than I am. The painting is ink and wash with charcoal.
October 5, 2008 Unfinished
This is an unfinished digital painting I did a while ago, I still like some of the colors and textures but there are several things off about the drawing I should have figured out before I started painting it, thought I'd post it since i probably won't ever finish it.
